1.) Can you please tell our readers a little bit about yourself, history you have in hosting industry and enlighten us how WebHosting UK started and how it grew to what it is today?
I’ll start with how Webhosting UK came to be what it is today, as that will give readers a better idea. I originally came from an outsourced support/management background and Webhosting UK had a support contract with that company. The previous owner of Webhosting UK wanted to emigrate to Australia and asked us if we would be interested in taking it over. At that time, Webhosting UK was relatively small in terms of the number of customers, but it quickly grew after the takeover. I’ve done a similar thing with a few other hosting companies over the years.
2.) WebHosting UK offers many different solutions; can you briefly talk about each of them?
Our products accurately reflect where we started and where we want to go. Starting at our lowest end packages, shared hosting and reseller hosting, we grew to offer VPS, Dedicated Servers and then Cloud Hosting products. Shared hosting is designed for individuals or small companies looking to have an initial online presence for their business or interest. Reseller hosting was designed for companies/people who wanted a central account to resell hosting directly to their clients. These kinds of packages were popular with web design companies, who after designing a website, would offer hosting as an extra.
VPS Hosting is designed for people who can’t quite justify the cost of a Dedicated Server but need the flexibility a VPS can offer. Namely, custom configurations, which they otherwise couldn’t run in a shared environment. A stepping stone between Shared Hosting and Dedicated Hosting is how we see it.
Our current Cloud Hosting lineup is designed for people who don’t necessarily need massive amounts of power, but want an incredibly high level of uptime. To achieve a high level of uptime in a Dedicated Server environment costs considerably more than it does in a Cloud Hosting environment. The trade off is that you don’t have the same level of raw power as a Dedicated Server environment. Soon we will be expanding our Cloud Range to get closer to the performance level of our high end Dedicated Server products.
Dedicated Servers are still the highest end line up we do, whether it be a single Dedicated Server or a dozen or so configured in a load balanced setup. To those who need raw power and performance, this range is still what people should be choosing. Our lower end Dedicated Servers easily give more power than an equivalent priced Cloud VM, but can’t be expected to give the time level of reliability.
3.) What separate WebHosting UK from the competitors ?
We are very much a customer service orientated company. We don’t believe in pointing to obscure parts of terms & conditions to justify why we won’t help a customer. We offer an extremely high level of individual management, helping our clients with even the most simple tasks which some other companies wouldn’t support. We also assist clients in high levels of optimizations, which again is something many other companies aren’t willing to work with customers to achieve.
5.) Please share more about WebHosting UK’s data centers and reliability?
We are primarily based out of two datacenters, one of which is in Maidenhead and the other which is in Milton Keynes. The facility in Maidenhead is classed as Tier 3 and the facility in Milton Keynes is Tier 4. Tier 4 is the highest rating available for a data center. Our shared hosting, VPS Nodes, Cloud Hosting and high end Dedicated Servers are based in Milton Keynes.
6.) Some people just don’t want to deal with moving from one host to another host. Does WebHosting UK offer any services to make this moving easier?
Indeed we do. Even if a customer is moving from different control panels, we will still do the migration when possible. It’s up to our sales team to ensure they understand the client requirement before recommending a product.
7.) We feel very important about customer support. What does WebHosting UK do in terms of customer support?
We have two offices across two continents, both of which are wholly run by ourselves. No aspect of our support is outsourced to a third party company. We supply support over Live Chat, Toll Free Phone and a Ticket based system. All of our support channels are open 24×7.
8.) What are the major changes you are planning to do in the future?
We will be further expanding our Cloud Hosting product range over the next few months. We will be increasing the specifications our Cloud Environment can be configured to and also launching a new service which will provide a truly “Pay as you Go” hosting concept. By the end of October 2011, both of these will be available. The “Pay as you Go” product will allow customers to configure a base specification and then our system will automatically allocate resources (CPU, RAM) as required and bill the customer for just what they use. This product will be a fantastic benefit to customers who have intermittent levels of activity and who need to suddenly burst to accommodate traffic. Longer term, we will be looking to overhaul our server product range and embrace processors which are highly power efficient, as we see the cost of electricity being a major expenditure.
